GIRLS IN SPORTS ARE EMPOWERED FOR LIFE
Who is Fast and Female?
Fast and Female is a registered Canadian charity on a mission to empower self-identified girls through sport, physical activity and education. Using our evidence-based curriculum, developed by industry leaders, we aim to build the confidence and leadership skills of girls ages 8-18 through our events and programs. We believe in the power of REAL (relatable, empowered, active leaders) Role Models for our participants and aim to create girl-centred, girl-focused opportunities for our participants to connect with incredible women Role Models who are passionate about sport and physical activity.
How Do We Do Strive to Accomplish This?
In our endeavour to foster lasting involvement in sports, we host national and local events and programs, in person and virtually, in collaboration with community partners and like-minded individuals.
Why Do We Exist?
For the girls!
According to the 2022 Rally Report by Canadian Women & Sport, 50% of girls are not participating in sport by the time they reach adolescence. 13% of 13-to-18-year-old girls and 10% of 6-to-12-year-old girls who participated in sport before the pandemic did not return. Fast and Female is aware that the experiences and barriers faced by girls and gender-diverse participants may be heightened when looking at their experiences through an intersectional lens: this includes their intersecting identities beyond gender, such as race, ethnicity, religion, culture, ability, economic status, sexuality and more.
Fast and Female is on a mission to change this by creating girl-focused and girl-centred opportunities through an intersectional lens. In doing so, we look to:
1. engage with the girls to identify how to create a sense of social belonging,
2. prioritize their mental and physical health,
3. Consider the various barriers to their participation and look to offer solutions and support,
4. and provide relatable mentors from within their own communities.
With these calls to action, Fast and Female strives to provide a brave space for our participants to explore new sports and physical activities.
Since 2005, Fast and Female has held over 300 events across North America, inspiring over 24,500 girls, with 2500 Role Model appearances, and educating 2450 coaches and parents.
The funds raised through this year’s Women’s Soap Run will help Fast and Female increase the number of impactful events and programs it hosts across Canada, and increase the accessibility and inclusivity of their offerings. The organization will be in a stronger position to further spread the word about the power of sports for girls.
