The first year I participated in the RMS Women’s Run a friend and co-worker had previously badly broken her ankle and was not allowed to run the race, only walk it.
I decided to participate in the RMS Women's Run her because there was no way I was running anywhere if there was nothing chasing me and, she promised to let me set the pace. The forecast was for snow that weekend in Canmore so I wore my winter boots since it is easier to pack shoes and then I would have my boots just in case of bad weather on the roads. Unfortunately I forgot my shoes at home so trudged the entire 5K in snow boots while my friend skipped along beside me in her little runners. Lol Needless to say we did not set any records for speed that day but I was hooked. I have participated every year either as a volunteer or as a runner/walker (with an emphasis on the walking). I really enjoy the camaraderie and the cheering sections along the route make it easy to keep going too. Guest writer Mary W. Sundre, AB
